Xuzhou became the first city in northern Jiangsu and the 35th city in China to be approved to build rail transit. According to the recent plan, there are three rail transit lines which will be built, including the first phase of line 1, 2 and 3, and the total length is 67 kilometers, including 60.6 kilometers of underground lines. The total investment is about 44.3 billion yuan.
Xuzhou metro line 1 is the east-west backbone line, which runs through the main axis of the city east-west development. It connects the old city, Bashan area and the east new district of the city, and also connects the three old city commercial centers of People's Square, Huaihai Square and Pengcheng Square,and rapidly connects the railway Xuzhou Station and Xuzhou East Station of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway .The total length of the first phase is about 21.9km, with 18 stations.
